Thanks to everyone who has suggested anything. I lost the auction on
eBay (someone wanted the books more than I did). Neither of them were
what I remember, though. I did manage to find that Circuit Cellar now
has its own webpage, but the projects on it only go back as far as 1988
or so.

Doesn't look like I'll ever find the book I remember. I do know it had
projects for several different 8 bit computers, and the one I had
wanted most was the SCSI card that would have worked on the Apple.
