That's correct. ProDOS 1.0 and 1.0.1 ran in 48K, but 1.1 and later
require 64K.

BASIC.SYSTEM doesn't work on an 48K ][+. It isn't relocatable and would
have to go in the same area as the ProDOS kernel.

With 48K, you are seriously limited in the applications you can run:
only those SYS files which can cope with the ProDOS kernel being in main
memory (by not overwriting it).

Getting hold of a language card would be a better plan of attack.
