Hi All,
I thought someone out there might find this amusing, as it did me after
the initial shock hit me. Just remeber that I have only recently
returned to my Apple after not doing so for over 15 years.
Basically I was running through all of my old 5.25" disks and basically
taking an inventory of what was on each disk and making sure that they
all worked. One of my disks had a few games which could be BRUN and I
had obviously setup a nice menu back in the day (one with scrolling and
flashing options).
Anyway, I thought I'd just exit out of the menu and see what else was
on the disk, so I hit CTRL-C and did a CATALOG. Then after a few
seconds I heard the unmistakable "chk...chk...chk...chk" - yes the disk
was being formatted!!! Then it hit me. I remember being a wise guy back
in the old days and using DOS BOSS to change all of the DOS 3.3
commands as a basic form hiding my code - so I guess I had changed the
CATALOG command to be INIT!!
Talk about being bitten by my own smarts. I bet when I originally
changed the commands I never once imagined that it would be me who fell
prey to my devious ends..... :-)
I now will never know what else was on that disk.
Anyone else done anything *A LONG* time ago and been bitten by it?
cheers,
-p
