There really isn't that many Apple ][ models out there:

* original Apple ][ - fairly rare and most expensive
* Apple ][+ - less rare and less expensive than the original
* Apple //e - the most prolific Apple ][ and probably least expensive
* Apple //c - portable Apple ][; fairly prolific; not that expensive
* Apple IIgs - the last Apple ][; better graphics and sound; fairly
prolific; not that expensive

I would probably recommend you get a //e or IIgs as they offer support
for most software and have the bonus of expandability (adding extra
cards to offer additional features). The Apple IIgs also allows you to
run GSOS (a graphical OS not unlike Apple Macs of a similar vintage),
and software dedicated to the 16 bit 65816 CPU and the enhanced
graphics and sound hardware (only found in the IIgs).

If you want further info, do a Google search on these models and/or
consult the Apple ][ FAQ (which was posted in this newsgroup just
recently).

Hope this info is helpful.
