That's right, the two states are not symmetrical in the amplfier
circuit. That's why every sound effect should make sure to access $C030
an even number of times.

My example was the Ultima 5 intro sequence, which shows little demo
scenes in the lower third of the screen. In the third demo scene, titled
"The Welcoming", a Shadowlord will eventually fire an arrow at Shamino.
This sound effect has an odd number of cycles, which will make the
waterfall in the same scene sound different afterwards. Though, if truth
be told, it doesn't sound much like a waterfall either before or after,
more like a dripping faucet. But the dripping is noticeably different.
And the next time through, as another arrow is fired at another Shamino,
the sounds will be back to normal again.
