Yes, the connection is made via a small rivet. Some of the rivets
appear to have become loose and thus not making good contact with the
resistive material. In fact I do know that one of the rivets was very
loose as the terminal was able to be rotated and I applied a small
amount of glue to stop this. This loosening of the rivets may have been
accelerated by the use of the WD-40, because I'm pretty sure that no
terminal movement was present before using it.
So thanks for your advices - I'll give the terminals a little solder
after doing another round of cleaning (with contact cleaner) to
*hopefully* remove any further WD-40 residue. I'll report my
success/failures tonight when I get home. ;-)
I think I've learnt my lesson to *not* use WD-40 on pots (or most other
electrical circuits for that matter!).
