WD-40 was a mistake. It has solvent properties that may extend to
the binder of the carbon resistance elements. There are special
solvents available at electronics stores designed specifically for
cleaning pots and switch contacts. BTW, *never* mix solvents unless
you know specifically what will happen.
Your best bet may be to simply replace the joystick. ;-(
Damn....I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I searched the forums and
read mixed reports of people using WD-40 that's why I thought I'd give
it a go. Some people said that it worked wonders, others like yourself
said that it would do damage. I used it with some trepidation and
obviously with good reason. It's a real shame coz I've owned that stick
since about 1988.... :-(
Whether it works or not depends on the formulation of the binder
in the carbon resistance element. So it works for some and doesn't
for others. (And you really would rather not roll the dice on your
joystick to find out which you have when there are safe formulations
available.)
I don't know whether you saw the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", in
which Windex was regarded as the universal solvent, antiseptic, etc.
Some people feel the same way about WD-40--spray it on anything and
it will make it better!
Looks like a new stick is in order....evil Bay here I come *again*.....
Sounds right.
