in the recent experience I had with my IIgs monitor arriving dead, the
LED on the front of the monitor was off but you could hear the high
voltage hum when switched on. It turned out that the high voltage stuff
was fine, but some of the solder joints on the circuit board at the
rear of the monitor had been cracked during shipping.... a quick
resolder of a few joints and it was alive again. My colleague (who used
to fix TV's) said that the heavier components on the boards often crack
their solder joints during shipping, particularly with older items like
our A2's where the solder is probably 15-20 years old.
anyway, that was my experience if this helps anyone out there. :-)
