Well, Usenet is getting less and less exposure in those parts of
Internet that "Average Joe User" probably will encounter. Most
surfers today are probably unaware of even the existence of Usenet.
So if the goal is to reach "Average Joe User": abandon Usenet, and
instead focus on some flashy web sites, and pay to Google and
other search engines so your site appears early in their search
engines. And hope there aren't many other competing web sites
about the Apple II which try to do the same.....
That's the way it is today .... sorry!
