Yup.  That xxxx was a number and the first three digits are the area
code of the system you are connecting to.  That is, "C 21260" would be
for a system in area code 212 (New York), or "C 203156" would be the
156th system in area code 203 (Connecticut).  They were scattered,
though.  C2031 was the "first" system in the 203 list, but may or may
not connect to anything.  Just keep incrementing the system number.  I
wrote a program to scan for systems.  it was slow, because I recall
that if you failed three times in a row it would drop the connection.
redial and continue..

Posting my "evil things" now.. I wonder if anyone else will "fess up"
to what they did, if they did anything like it...
