Anyway, getting back to my original question, does anyone have any
recommendations for a monitor to use. The Commodore 1080 that was
mentioned, does it work well with the IIgs?

The Commodore Amiga 1080 monitor has analog RGB (in addition to digital RGB) inputs and thus would work with the IIGS. The picture is not overly bright but is adequate. Also some Commodore 1084 monitors (those that have analog and digital RGB inputs) would work. The 1084's don't have the anti-glare coating on the screen that the 1080's have. A Commodore 1960 monitor is a multi-scan VGA monitor and would not be suitable for the IIGS.

Would a small (33cm - 13 inch) TV work OK?

Only if the IIGS outputs a composite signal or if the 13-inch t.v. has analog RGB inputs.
