Thats really awesome that they still worked after being buried!! But
then would you expect anything else from an Apple? :-)

Anyhow, I'm 32 and my first computer used was one that my dad built (it
was a kit) around 1979. I'm not sure what it was (I'll have to ask
him), but it was a one piece unit with a cassette drive enclosed within
the unit. The only thing I remember playing on it was space invaders.

I first programmed in basic on a friends Dick Smith VZ300 in around
1985 - these were apparently the Australian version of the VTech Laser
310. As I didn't own a computer myself, I used to write the programs in
pencil in the back of a school workbook and then type them in when I
got to my friends place.... I'm now a software engineer and I'm glad I
don't follow the same methods as when I was 12!! X0

My first computer was a II+ clone that I bought around 1986. I had it
for a year or two before the drives started misbehaving (probably only
dirty drive heads, but I didn't know how to fix it at that time). I
sold it and bought a genuine Apple ][e (unenhanced) in 1988 (which I
still have although I recently blew the motherboard and have yet to
determine the problem).

I too have only recently returned to the Apple II world within the last
6 months, after having been lured to the "dark side" in 1992 (ie.
bought a PC clone...).

By the way, this is a great thread and I've been very interested in
reading other posters 1st computer experiences. There's certainly a lot
of variations!

cheers,
