Ah yes, you mean the kind of adapter that you can use to hook up a
640x480 VGA DB15 pin Mac video output to a RGA Dsub15 VGA display,
right? Does it have a lot of DIP switches?
I am looking right now at the PDF of the XRGB-3 manual, page 15,
section 29. It explicitly says that the 15 pin RGB input terminal is
only capable of accepting RGB input signal of 31 kHz sync (640x480).
Maybe the manual is wrong. Additionally, it says that you should only
connect it to game consoles, as the upper limit of the signal range is
poor, resulting in a poor image when connected to PC devices. Also when
using this input you need to select "Separate" on the "D Input 2 Signal
Format" setup menu item. (Can you confirm that you are doing this?)
Again on page 29 it states that only 31 kHz horizontal sync is
supported on the Dsub15 input.
Also, when using the 21 pin RGB multi connector input you have to
select the 21 pin input signal format on the on screen menu (presumably
you are doing this, but if you aren't it could cause the display to be
muddled)
Now, assuming that none of this helps and the 21 pin RGB input produces
the same poor disply as the 15 pin VGA input as you have verified, I
would say that the XRGB3 manual's disclaimer about the VGA input would
also apply to the 21 pin RGB input - i.e., they say to only use it for
game consoles. Maybe I can contact their tech support and verify this.
