Hmm, The ROM upgrade is probably the trickiest bit - a simple piece of
hardware plugged into the keyboard to detect for example,
apple-shift-esc would be pretty easy to design.
The button idea is ok too, as all you need is debounce circuitry, so
it's a nice simple way. If the idea gets off the ground I'll consider
contributing a design for the keyboard edition.
As far as I know, there's no ProDOS issues. NMI is not officially used
in the Apple II, except of course for the IIgs
