I did some more searching and confirmed that Allison 1.0.4 *should*
work with my Visionary GS board. To quote directly from the release
notes in version 1.0.5:

"This version is identical to version 1.0.4 except that it will function
with the AEC/AllyROM on your card, and monochrome fullscreen
digitizing has been enhanced to use the new ROM."

And the author himself wrote, in direct reference to the above:
"I only added stuff to recognize the new ROM"

It believe that Allison 1.00 through 1.04 would work on both
the Visionary and Alltech firmware. It sounds like 1.04 and 1.05
are 100% identical, except for lockout routine, almost like copy-
protection. From what Scott Gentry said, I don't even think it
offered the improved fullscreen greyscale digitizing feature,
just this useless and annoying lockout.

So if I can track down Allison version 1.04 (or lower) I should
be able to get my card up and running. Or if someone out there
knows how to patch the firmware check, that'd work too. :)
