The switch selects the text font (different set of characters in the 
charactergenerator) and it changes the keyboard mapping IIRC (my IIe was 
German but now has a US motherboard and keyboard).

Sorry I don't know the answers to the other questions. I just swapped 
the motherboard with an Enhanced US one, I have no need for the German 
setting as I'm Norwegian and use all my computers in English. I dislike 
Norwegian windows etc.

I check the roms and see if I have something you don't. Great to have 
this on file.
