I know the fact that Apple II is capable to display only 5x7 matrix font
inside 7x8 matrix box on NTSC monitor that it allows to be 560x192
resolution. If it attempts to overcome NTSC's limitation by modifying from
7x8 matrix to 8x8 matrix which it bring to 640x192 resolution, NTSC monitor
might be able to display 640x192 resolution, but it will fail to sustain
color reference as 3.58MHz. 8x8 matrix is like CGA font that it appears in
NTSC monitor. It will not work.
Now, what about C64/128? It has 40x25 lines so it looks like 640x200
resolution. Do C64/C128 use CGA font? Is video circuit more complex, but
Apple II's video circuit is little simpler? I am curious.
