I've told this story before. Around 1995 or so, I arrived at a garage
sale to find someone looking over an exotic looking Apple computer. For
some reason, he turns to me and says "there's no SIMMs". I look closer,
and it's the first IIGS I ever saw. I say something about how it's not
a Mac, by that point it was clear he thought he'd grabbed a Macintosh (and
given the case, one of the more exotic ones) for thirty dollars. I bumped
into him a few weeks later, and by then he'd figured it out, though I'm
sure I'd said something when he was looking it over.

It was long enough ago that Macintoshes weren't showing up that much
at garage sales, at least not much in the way of non Compact Macs, so if
you didn't know, it would seem to be quite the find. Even as a IIGS, I
think the only other time I saw one at a garage sale or rummage sale was
when I bought mine at a school sale for five dollars, a couple of years later.
