Do you know about Apple II disk drive hooked up to PC? How is the disk
image transferred from Apple into PC?
Thanks!
Jack
Hi, Jack...
I ask you please read FAQ about Disk II before you post your message on
the newsgroups. It is very important that you understand how hardware works
with floppy drive. GCR and MFM formats have different scheme recording.
MFM has hard sector because it is done by hardware dependently. GCR has
soft sector because it is done by software independently without any help
from hardware except it needs hardware for moving head arm and spinning
disk.
I suggest that you read "Understanding the Apple II+" manual which it
has deep explanation of Disk II in chapter 9. It is now available in PDF
format.
Apple II FAQ tells how to transfer disk images from Apple II to PC using
null-modem cable, ADT, or AE PC Transporter card. It is not worth to read
disk image from Apple II disk into PC floppy drive like Michael Mahon
explained earlier about DSK2FDI. DSK2FDI is not worth reliable accurately
when it is non-copy-protection unless copy-protection scheme is always
disabled. I hope that you can do your experiment to try. Good Luck.
Hope it helps.
