Musing about XScreensaver and emulation

Just got to thinking.

I could probably very easily recreate "fruit", the tty Apple emulator I 
used to have, perhaps I could have it talk with XScreensaver, but that 
wouldn't be perfect.

I wonder, if the XScreensaver "apple2" code could be hacked into a working 
emulator?  I'd be willing to bang on device handling and such if someone 
could get the TTY functional (which would probably be way over my head) :)
