The most obvious place is the panel on the back which covers the ports. It is very easy to break the retaining tabs when removing it. This makes it pretty easy to pop the panel out with a little pressure.
It should be noted that some //c systems had the Apple dealer supplied upgrade motherboard installed which might be a false lead. Not all dealer tech's were skilled in //c repairs.
