You know, I've always found it amusing that the Apple II crowd split in
two over this issue into those that remained "faithful" and those that
defected to the Microsoft camp.

Amusing in the sense that while both groups argue over which company
constitutes the greater 'evil', they both continue to be screwed over
whenever a new market opportunity arises, or technology 'moves on'.

There is an alternative, you know. Move to Open Source software.
Particularly if you do software development or enjoy tinkering, which
is what the Apple II was so great for, you'll feel right at home.

Surely this has to be more constructive than standing either side of a
virtual divide, cursing the corporate entity on your side when the
screw you, but vowing not to change 'sides' to the other more evil
entity?

Come on, corporations are loyal to only one group: shareholders. Anyone
who is a customer of corporate entities is guaranteed to be shafted one
way or another, given a long enough time line.

FWIW, I'm not an Apple customer since the Apple II either, but neither
am I Microsoft customer. I plan to stick with using an open system
architecture (home built PC), plus Open Source/Free Software. I don't
like being screwed anymore than anyone else
