Unlikely as the 40 track patch was all my own work and only exists on
my card...

Yes, most recent (if the mid 80's can be considered recent) drive cards
have the skip if no bootable disk found (my Cirtech SCSI cards don't if
no powered up drive is on the bus because they support multiple
computers on the same bus - I must find the explanation in the manual).
The Apple RAMDisk (Slinky) card can do it (I know as I have the
source), the Apple Rev C and HS SCSI cards can do it (I think - yes,
just found it described in the SCSI card Tech Ref manual). In one of my
IIe systems I have a Cirtech SCSI card (in slot 4) and Disk ][ card (in
slot 6 for maximum compatiblity) and to get it to auto boot from the
SCSI drive I had to modify the IIe firmware and reverse the slot scan
from 7654321 to 1234567.
