There were at least a couple of 65816 cards available for the Apple II
_before_ the Apple IIGS was released. As rumours of a 16-bit Apple IIx
gained traction one company even advertised something like "run
software for the new 16-bit Apple II on your IIe". Of course as we now
know the G and S meant that wasn't likely to happen.
