I've had a Sony CPD-1302 monitor sitting on my floor about three weeks
now and unable to use it (or even test it) since its missing the video cable.
I'd like to connect it up to my Apple IIGS.
What I need is a 9-pin (DE-9 male) to 15-pin (Mac and IIgs) cable, or
alternatively a DE-9 to VGA.
It's a long shot but if you have one of these, please contact me.
Sorry, this was only meant to be posted to comp.sys.apple2.marketplace,
I tried to cancel the article but it looks like it still got through.
Though anyway, once you've replied... :)
Mitch, get an old PC serial cable (9-pin) and an old PC joystick
(15-pin). Then cut both cables at an appropriate point and strip
the wires. Use a continutiy tester to find out which wires connect
to which pins, then twist the appropriate wires together to make
your video cable.
At a thrift store, these should be about $1-$3 each.
If you "stagger" the lengths of the individual wires, and put some
heat shrink tubing over one end before joining (with or without solder),
you can actually make a reasonably compact cable splice. If you can
fine a piece of larger heatshrink tubing (to put over one whole cable
before joining), then you can seal the whole thing up nicely.
Tape will work, too, of course, but it's a bit messier.
I took an old Macintosh video cable and cut the connector off one end.
Inside there are 8 wires, 3 of which are thicker than the others (I'm
guessing they are for the pins carrying the red, green and blue signals).
