I think it's safe to say that just about all Apple II users are still
using floppies, though I doubt many of us would waltz into your printing
shop with a 140K ProDOS floppy and expect to get very far with it.
Personally, my opinion on floppies depends a lot on what kind of floppies
you're talking about... I've found 5.25" diskettes to be extremely
reliable, in fact I don't think I've ever lost data other than through
user stupidity or physical mangling.
Double Density 3.5" floppies also seem to be pretty resilient, with the
advantage of being physically tougher and more easily transportable...
unfortunately they're pretty much obsolete in the real world.
High Density floppies, on the other hand, are complete crap as far as I'm
concerned... fine for quick data transfers, I guess, but I've had so many
go bad in a matter of months thatI just don't trust them for any kind of
backup. But that's just been my experience... I'm sure others will differ.
