What? You mean there's no checksum on transfers?Well, there is with xmodem-1k... sure... but I was getting a lot more errors. And lots of folks are using their SSCs at 115kbps--reliability depends on the program(s) doing the transfer. Length of cable can be a speed consideration, but up to 25 feet shouldn't be a problem. Then my problem was either the ZLink program, my screwy zip chip, or a combination thereof. Pretty soon I plan to mothball that zip chip since all it is good at doing is crashing my computer after running for 30 minutes.
While it is certainly possible for a Zip Chip to get flaky (in fact, there was a bad run with cache memory chips that went bad with use), it may also be another card or memory in your machine. The Zip Chip does slightly alter some setup and hold times, which can make some systems either more stable or more flaky, depending on how close to the line other components are. -michael Music synthesis for 8-bit Apple II's!
