You all want to hear something funny? I have an 1979 Apple II+ case, keyboard, power supply.. but with a II lid, and what I believe to be a II motherboard (820-0001-03).. it has the very dark green slots, ram selector blocks, Integer Basic, Programmer's AID, and original monitor (non-autostart). Gee, why don't I trade parts with the serial #5 guy?
Since the Apple II was designed for easy service, with virtually all
major components being separately replaceable, how is it ever possible
to establish authenticity without unimpeachable provenance?
Normally, this issue would prevent very high prices for any object
*without* such certifiable provenance--but perhaps we are operating
in the "greater fool" mode... ("It doesn't matter what I pay for it
as long as there's a greater fool to buy it next, for more.")
