If I might pop in here for a sec. :-)I have found that the best way to transfer files to/from an Apple computer to a windows box is to put a third system in the middle. A Macintosh. The Mac can (at least my system can) use Appletalk to talk to the Apple computer and the Mac can talk via the internet/router with the IBM. In this way all files are automatically translated properly between the Mac and Apple (text files that is) and the Mac and IBM as well. Only on the very early Apples do you have to have an Appletalk card. There used to be an Appletalk card for the IBM PCs as well but I haven't heard about those in a very long time.
Using Appletalk is slow. Appletalk went at something like 9600 baud. The thing about it is that the files are good once they have been transferred and you really do not have to sit there and monitor it all day long. (Or all night long.) Once the transfers are complete you can then create a CD or use your internet connection to complete the transfer. I'm going to be using a CD but only because I've collected about 5,000 diskettes over the years. I've done about 1,000 of them and, with duplicates, I've managed to reduce that down to around 500 programs and data files. Still, the //gs just sits there and slowly but surely transfers everything. I just hope my arms are up to doing another 4,000 diskettes! :-P
The nice thing is - this kind of a set-up works both ways. To and from a //gs. So have fun! :-)
