My ROM 03 GS box seems to have a little trouble with AppleTalk.
When I first installed AppleTalk support in GSOS 6.0.1, I hadn't done
the control panel work yet. Booting would cause a full-screen popup
(Just like VIO messages in OS/2... ah, memories!) complaining that
AppleTalk wasn't set up in the control panel. This happened about half
way into the booting process as indicated by the progress bar. One
more full-screen popup happens a couple seconds after dismssing the
first, then things finish booting fine. Just no AppleTalk, as
expected.
However... if I change either slot 1 or 2 to AppleTalk, then the little
progress bar gets to about half way and just stops there. I can leave
and come back hours later and it's still in that same place, so it's
definitely hung.
This behavior is independent of whether or not I have the serial cable
hooked between the appropriate port (slot 1 = Printer, slot 2 = Modem)
and a Mac. (The serial cable is tested good; I can get a couple of
Macs to talk together with it). A little digging through various
archives revealed another user having a similar problem, though his
progress meter went all the way to the end, then hung. That was due to
a -5v line failure in his power supply. My trusty voltmeter reads
-4.90v, so I'm not convinced that's my problem.
Any other ideas about what could be causing this?
