Re: Pleasantly Surprised By Defender of the Crown (IIgs)

It's unfortunate... An artifact (primarily) of the IIgs's lack of

The fact is, the Amiga and Atari ST platforms were superior to the IIgs
in almost every way, except for sound reproduction and Apple II
compatibility.

Things might've turned out a little better had Apple committed
themselves to improving the platform. As any IIgs user knows, you need
both an accelerator and RAM card to get decent capability out of the
IIgs, although equipped with both those items, it was a better and
cheaper machine than the Macintoshes of the day.

I guess I'm one of those Apple II fans who isn't a IIGS fan... But
everyone favours one of the 'platforms'.. For me, it's the 128k+
Enhanced IIe or IIc. For others it's the original Apple II...

I have the same preference.

I've always felt that the IIgs, and particularly GSOS, were a giant
step away from the open, easy hackability of the II, which was nicely
improved in the //e. Put another way, the documentation required to
fully understand and program the IIgs weighs more than the computer,
unlike the //e. ;-)
