Re: Sony CPD-1302 monitor -- IIGS cable?

  Hi all,

Just curious why would one want to use a non Apple monitor? I am
using the original Apple digital color monitor with my IIgs.

I have been thinking some lately about how to preserve or at least
extend the life of these old Apple monitors, of which I have 4: the II
monochrome, the IIc AppleColor Composite, the IIgs monitor, and the
monitor built into my Mac Color Classic. I only have schematics for
the II mono screen.

I have been assuming that caps replacement in at least the power
supply would be the best approach. I wonder if there is a place one
could (cost-effectively) send the analog boards for a caps overhaul?

The typical failure mode of electrolytics is progressive loss of
capacitance, so there is no catastrophic effect of this failure,
just a progressive loss of performance.

As a result, the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the operative
rule.

If performance deteriorates (e.g., vertical height, brightness, ...)
to the point where it needs to be opened up, then some preventive
replacement might be justified, but I wouldn't do it without any
symptoms.
