I'm not really a huge fan of the whole wiki thing, but having looked over
both sites (and even contributed to one) I honestly don't understand what
all the argument is about... at the end of the day either one is just
another Apple II web site and I don't see any reason why they can't both
continue (each with their own adherents) in the same way that all the
other Apple II resources manage to co-exist. In the end Natural Selection
will determine which resources stick around and which go tits up...

As far as people being worried that their contributions might be
inadvertently lost, I'd suggest a few ideas: First, unless you're
contributing original content and not just correcting, it's not worth
worrying about.

Second, if you are contributing original content, for God's sakes keep a
copy... if you don't back up your own files then you're just asking for
it. I know I'm over-simplifying the issue, but come on...

Third, if articles are wanting on both a2guide and wikipedia, why not
contribute to both? It's as easy as copy&paste (more-or-less).

As I mentioned, I'm not really concerned about the pros and cons of either
site, but I think Gabriel's taking a little more guff than is really
warranted... sure Apple2guide.net is a little more precariously perched
than wikipedia, but then the Apple II community is smaller and more
fragile than the Wintel community, so should we all just say "to hell with
it" and move to comp.sys.windows? I think not.
