Re: Games: Apple IIgs vs. Atari ST vs. Amiga
>> Out of This World
Really? The only port I ever played was on the PC (the original I
think), but IIRC that game needed massive amounts of memory to move
smoothly. I have a hard time beliving that the poor old IIgs could
churn out a decent framerate unless accelerated, but then again I've
never seen the Amiga or ST ports (were there Amiga or ST ports?).
>> Any Sierra adventure games [music]
I'll agree with this. Although the IIgs got stuck with Apple II
graphics, the music was kick ass. The Atari ST got the best sierra
ports (nearly identical to the PC originals), while the Amiga got the
worst. I don't know what Sierra had against the Amiga, but the ports
(especially the later ones) were terrible!
>>There were plenty of rotten ones too to be fair. Undoubtedly the worst ports ever were Mindscape's Gauntlet and Paperboy
I was shocked when I saw the pictures. It's like they took the Apple
II version (which wasn't too swift to begin with) and stuck it on a
3.5" floppy. Why did they even bother? I feel sorry for anyone who
bought those games new. Someone really needs to do a IIgs version of
Gauntlet. A *real* version...
Speaking of Amiga equipment, does anyone have a dead 1200 that I can
steal the keys from? My 1200 keyboard has some nasty keys that I'd
like to replace. :)
