YottaNews has a free account, I think it's 1GB/month, but it doesn't
allow posting. Limit of 1 connection at a time to the news server.

TeraNews has a 50MB/day account available for a ontime $3.95 signup fee,
and I think they allow posting. Limit of 1 connection at a time to the
news server.

There's also BubbaNews which also has a 50MB/day free account, but I
couldn't get into mine a while back when I tried over a couple of
months. Haven't investigated it since then.

TeraNews and BubbaNews are resellers for the same commercial news
server, but I don't remember who at this time.
They'll both have only a limited archive of messages, but should be good
for day to day reading.
Now me personally, I do most of my usenet through my ISP. They give me
no volume limits with speeds running upwards of 400K/sec. But they only
have a week's worth of messages in the text newsgroups.
