If you really want to increase the size and vigor of the Apple II
community, generate publicity for it. "Market" it to the younger
generations as cool, interesting, inexpensive, and fun! (Which it
already is, without any new development.)

I think "inexpensive" as a buzzword for the youth isn't really working
(anymore).

Excellent point! Come to think of it, Apple Computer has never
aimed to be inexpensive--quite the opposite. They've always opted
to price higher, both to generate revenue for investment (as Woz
points out) *and* to attach some "style points" to their products.

"Apple--for people who care enough to pay more for their stuff."

The result is that people who bought Apple, bought into the myth,
and became invested in their success. This, perhaps even more than
their more recent status as an "oppressed minority", may account
for the greater per capita fervor of Apple buyers... ;-)

Of course, in the beginning, there was, IMHO, ample superior value
in their product design to justify the higher markup. Lately, it
seems more like "designer jeans".
