This is probably the best solution.  Its not quite out of the box
functionality, but close; and can be pretty successful especially with
good documentation.  Best of all, no worries that all the work would be
fruitless.

This potentially could have a broader market with all of the junkies on
6502.org getting a machine that they could easily custom code the
firmware to whatever their liking may be.
