Thanks all. I've got a PAL on the way from Henry, and I'll see if that fixes it. If not, I may have to swap the mainboard. Reviving my old TRS-80 was a snap in comparison - they used only standard 74xx -type chips, and had very good theory of operation and troubleshooting sections in the Tandy hardware manual.
