Re: Best Way To Transfer Files From a PC to the IIgs

Hi everyone,

This thread is a bit old but I want to add some information. I purchased a LANceGS card but just today installed contiki and the rejetto server and transferred files from Windows to my Apple IIgs. Here are some suggestions.

- You must have only 10BaseT between the Apple and the PC. I had to break out an old hub and rewire the office a bit to make it work. This may seem obvious when you understand that LANceGS is 10BaseT only and that some 100BaseT hubs may not be autosensing, but it's only obvious in hindsight.

- Make sure to use conservative file names on the PC. It seems that Contiki does not like some filenames that are OK on the IIgs. Keep the filename format to <base>.<ext>.

- Run the rejetto server and drag-and-drop the files you want to make available. I used port 80 instead of a different port so I didn't have to specify the port (e.g. http://this.that:1234). If you use port 80, make sure you don't have something that might interfere like eDexter or whatever. Make sure you don't have anything else using the port like Oracle http.

- In Contiki, hit [ESC] and arrow down to 'run'. Type 'wget.prg' and hit [enter]. Now you type in the file you want to get. It will be something like:

src - http://192.168.0.3/TheFile.po
dst - /HARDDRIVE.1/SUBDIRECTORY/TheFile.po

My Windows was using IP 192.168.0.3. You can get the IP by going to a command prompt and running 'ipconfig /all'.

The rejetto is a complete, packaged EXE and it works very well. No more Hyperterminal<->ZLINK transfers!

What kind of bandwidth did you get for the file transfers?

I'll be I can beat it by walking across the room with a 128MB
CompactFlash card I've written with CiderPress. ;-)
