I went from Mac to GS all the time with no problems with resource forks.  
It's all a matter of knowing what tools to use.  ProType (on the Mac) is 
your friend.  It'll give a file the correct Creator/Filetype on the Mac 
based on the extension (like .shk).  If the correct Creator/Filetype are 
present, resource forks aren't added by Mac OS.
