As I read on, regarding the Platinum IIe, I believe that the main
board used in the Platinum also found its way into late-model
standard IIe machines.

And a salient characteristic of these main boards is that they
bypassed the pushbutton inputs with 0.1uF capacitors, effectively
disabling them as even medium bandwidth inputs.
