I remember Mountain Hardware's "supertalker". It was mostly a hardware
not software thing (i still keep the card). you could teach it a list of
words (digitizing them in fact) and then you had to associate each sound
to a string. I'm not sure as i don't remember it very well, but i think
that then when the string was printed zap! the card had it spoken.
The demo of the card said through the speaker "Hello, I'm Mountain
hardware Supertalker, I let your apple talk. This time, let's practice
speaking languages..." and said some words in german, french, etc... :-)
