Re: Interesting PC-to-Apple Software: Lora BBS

if i've read the below correctly ..you can also do this with worldgroup bbs
software (major bbs) if it has telnet or www features
(or not you could do it without but only use the modems with major bbs
version) there was a program for it called 'dialout" and
you could hitch an apple ii to the bbs and do it that way..i ran the lost
gonzo bbs from 1993 to 2003 using this method and had
2 apples running ..1 with fv/metal4.0xev and the other with tpro 4.2f
rpg....drove the wg bbs people crazy they all wanted to get
the 'doors' of spacerquest etc..quite a bummer when i told them it was an
apple 2...1 user at a time...also i got proterm to do xfers
this way..and there is a way to use synchronet underneath (i used that cause
it allowed multinode doors rather then the crap door
1user at a time program that came w/worldgroup) but the synchro was run on a
sep machine/ip and under the menu of wg setup
so it could get to modems that way

my point is there were door programs for standard bbs types called for
synchro and wildcat rbbs etc that allowed you to run such
programs to do telenet under your freeware or whatever msdos bbs you put the
door in and bingo bango it found a modem for a
user to dial out to a pre-arranged (or not) dial in bbs....had a similar
door for telnet

i forget the name...but it was quite common...so you could do all the stuff
i did with an expensive wg bbs from the day with
www.synchro.net these 2 programs and the approprate modem

i'll have to check your link on that bbs you talk about..never heard of it
..but anyway if i have the gist of this right ..that is what
i got...and as far as downloads via the apple 2 bbs pkgs thru the wg or
other front end web bbs on a pc via modem or telnet
it did work but was really slow sometimes..and tied up the apple 2..so i
just made a link on the page to the apple 2 machines menu to
the apple file area and kept that on the wg machine..(256 lines) freed the
ap2 gs's up for users to fight to get in

when they would announce that tw2002 was an orig game idea..i'd point out
spacer quest....on the fv/metal setup hehehe..

anyway...someday i'll get he beast back up

but yeah...i'd just fire up the apple 2 with whatever bbs pkg on that
particular machine (tpro or fv/metal) and just upload or download via
the file xfer areas on the machines...mostly upload from the ap2s ...better
to run files under the 256line beast..also proterm same method...
but that was a slick menu way to xfer files via the bbs format themselves
etc
when i would try to go out and get a download via wg from a telnet site via
modem w/o getting it to the www machine first..well that somet
imes was 2 many hoops for the proterm or bbs's to handle....just got it to
the file are of the wg setup then up/down normal to that ap2's

anyway check out www.boycot.no-ip.com if your gonna have the beast hitched
to your PC you may as well go whole hog like i used to an
boycot...
