At my workshop we have an Apple II+ with a special diagnostic ROM installed
on the motherboard. I don't remember who wrote it or marketed it; I got it
from a third-party Apple repair shop I worked at many years ago. It tests
the on-board RAM, the keyboard, speaker, etc. We use it primarily for
testing 4116 RAM chips from other circuit boards. I don't know if it can
test memory on any plug-in cards. This ROM is a 2716 rigged up to emulate
an on-board ROM.
