Yes, often it's not a dirty contact issue, but gunk on the mechanical
parts which makes it harder to operate the key.  It is amazing how much
stuff can come off our fingers over a period of time and rest under
the keytops.

A tiny bit of rubbing alchohol tends to clean them up if this is
the problem.  Likely there's something better, and maybe the alcohol
isn't actually needed, but that's what I'd be giving a try if I had
such a problem.
