I didn't suggest the Mac Plus was crippled. I did mean that Apple knew when they released the Plus and even as they were touting it as the top of the line, they knew full well that the SE and Mac II series (having already been designed and partially prototyped) were going to quickly supplant it with their new platform strategy. They were capable of making more powerful Macs at the time but didn't. It was the beginning of Apple's split pricing model - entry level and pro level.
