A "ton" might be a bit overwhelming, but I'd be willing to
try with several. If I'm successful, then perhaps you or
others would be willing to try the other 1999 pounds. ;-)
The technique is not difficult, but it requires patience
and care to avoid further harm to the media.
Although there are certainly cases of substandard magnetic
media and, of course, physical damage, I have a great deal
of confidence in the physics of magnetism, and expect that
the vast majority of "bad" disks are fully recoverable.
