It's a magnetic interlock...on the left side, IIRC, under a round protrusion
(of sorts).  If the magnet fell out of the lid and got lost someplace, the
printer won't work.  Holding a magnet of some sort (like a fridge magnet or
the magnet on the back of a speaker) over the reed switch should allow the
printer to go back online.
