Well, I developed an AVR uController that does this and I use the design in 
the replica 1. The source is available from my site.

I would produce boards for an external keyboard complete with a toggle 
switch setup but is there that many people who want one? If so, I can have 
boards at the mill being produced by Monday. This obviously is only set up 
for the II/IIplus, not the IIe.
