Re: Way to read Apple II disks on a PC?

Looking around, I've found a lot of old documentation insisting that
it's impossible to read Apple II disks on a PC. Key word: old. This used
to be the story with Amiga diskettes as well, until somebody figured out
that if you had two floppy drives, you could use one to trick the other,
or something like that, and dump the contents of Amiga diskettes with a
PC.
So I wonder if a similar process has been developed in the case of
Apple II disks.

Yes it can be done. There was a thread on this recently discussing the why it works and the limitations. It is done the exact same way as the amiga stuff.

You need two floppy drives, Windows ME, 98, 95, or DOS to use the 'trial' program Disk2FDI. It only capures the 'front' side of the 5.25" diskette. It also only seems to work on 'normal 5.25" disks that are not protected and use the 16 sector format.

(I'd like to see a mod that does the Nib format, but I don't have that skill set.)

It was pointed out that I could read the 'back' of an A2 flippy diskette if I opened the diskette and turned the media over inside the jacket.
